The challenge

A great product, and a business problem hiding behind it

Maximum Controls builds access and security gate systems trusted to control entry to the properties they protect. As the market moved toward connected systems, adding LTE connectivity was the obvious next step: remote monitoring, over-the-air updates, and control from anywhere turn a mechanical security gate into a smart one.

But connectivity introduces a business problem that has nothing to do with security gates. Someone has to source and manage the cellular service. Someone has to bill each customer for it, every month, accurately. Someone has to handle activations, suspensions, plan changes, failed payments, and support. For a company whose expertise is hardware, standing up a telecom back office is a distraction at best and a growth ceiling at worst.

The turning point

Connectivity is only worth it if you can monetize it

The opportunity in connectivity isn't just a better product, it's a better business model. A security gate sold once is revenue once. A security gate that carries a monthly connectivity or managed-service subscription becomes recurring revenue that compounds with every unit in the field.

Capturing that, though, means running subscriber operations at scale: not a handful of accounts, but a growing base of end customers, each with devices, plans, invoices, and payments that all have to reconcile month after month. That is precisely the operation a hardware company doesn't want to build, and precisely the one that determines whether the recurring-revenue opportunity is real or theoretical.

“RevX has accelerated our growth with a simple-to-use, off-the-shelf solution to connect, manage, and bill for our LTE security gates so we can focus on product!”

The solution

One platform behind the security gates

Rather than assemble a connectivity vendor, a billing system, a payment processor, and a support workflow, and then spend months making them talk to each other, Maximum Controls put the whole operation on RevX.

Connectivity. RevX manages the cellular service behind each security gate, so activations, plan management, and usage all run from one place, without Maximum Controls having to become a telecom operator.

Billing and payments. Each customer is billed automatically for their subscription, with payment processing, retries, and collections handled by the platform. The recurring revenue lands reliably instead of depending on manual effort.

Customer management and self-service. Accounts, devices, plans, and support live in one system, so the growing base of end customers can be served without a back office growing to match.

Because it arrived as an off-the-shelf solution rather than a build, the path from decision to running system was short, and the operation scales as the installed base grows rather than buckling under it.

The outcome

Growth, without becoming a telecom company

With RevX running connectivity, billing, and customer management, Maximum Controls added a recurring-revenue line to a business that used to end at the sale, and did it without pulling its team off the product that made the company. Connectivity became a growth engine instead of an operational burden.

The result is the one every connected-product company is really after: a smart product, a subscription business underneath it, and an engineering team still spending its time on security gates rather than invoices.
